Happy Valley Homestead

A Family Farm Stay Experience

Welcome

Welcome to Happy Valley and the Jarvis family Homestead. We invite you to experience the tranquility of our country Homestead with your family for a unique Farm Stay experience. You will experience a taste of Western Australian rural lifestyle from the 1940’s, when our farm was established, until today.

Homestead History

Happy Valley Homestead is situated approx 5km South of Donnybrook in the Upper Capel valley at far the end of Goldfields Road.

It was built on the farm in 1939 as the original Farmhouse (pictured right) by our family. The weatherboard building was constructed of timber from two small mill cottages.

The family then established a small dairy and piggery. These timber buildings are still standing among a mix of large established Morton Bay Figs, Plane and Eucalyptus trees (pictured below). The Homestead garden features some of the original fruit trees in the surrounding yard that still produce fruit today.

Happy Valley Today…

We are still farming here, while raising the 4th generation, with 200ha of grazing pastures for beef cattle and riding ponies. As a family we maintain a 12ha commercial Apple orchard in the valley (pictured right) with fruit packing facilities. All surrounded by 50ha of native bush with an abundance of birds and wildlife. We grow many apple varieties from the old Granny Smith, to the popular Pink Lady (pictured left) and Royal Gala. Our apples are picked from February to May in autumn.

The farm is currently in conversion to organic production so be assured our farming practices are safe. Livestock is rotated around the farm periodically and there are numerous waterholes and irrigation dams located around the property.
Farm Stay Accommodation

We have recently renovated the original Homestead as a fully self contained Farm Stay for families of up to 8 people. The Homestead has some of the original furniture and belongings our family used so you can experience how our grandparents used to live on the farm all those years ago.

It contains 3 bedrooms, one with Queen size bed, one with double bed and one bedroom with two single bunk beds to accommodate up to 4 children or adults. Pillows and doonas are provided for all beds. Towels and bed linen can be provided for a small charge on booking.

A comfortable lounge room with a wood fireplace where you can curl up with a book or loved one on winter nights or watch a movie with TV and DVD player provided.
The kitchen has been fully renovated with a fridge/freezer, breakfast bench and electric stove top and oven. It’s self contained with a kettle and toaster, cutlery, crockery, and cooking equipment. It’s also equipped with a double sink, rain water for drinking, cleaning equipment and Fire safety equipment for your convenience and safety during your stay. A large dining table is also available for large groups and families.
A fully renovated bathroom is located on the back verandah with toilet, shower and laundry facilities (washing machine and dryer). A clothes line is located below the deck behind the bathroom. Sorry no Hair dryer provided.
A deck has been added to the back of the Homestead for you to enjoy BBQ’s while you take in the view of the valley and Homestead surrounds. Most evenings you can see kangaroos as they venture into the paddocks and valley from the bush while sitting on the back deck.

Things to enjoy on your stay

While staying in the comfort of the fully self-contained Homestead you can relax and listen to the red-tailed cockatoos as they fly overhead and feast on the gumnuts, marvel at the dainty blue wrens dancing around the garden, wonder at the frogs croaking in the winter creek and wake to the birds singing at dawn.

You can also enjoy the many local family attractions in Donnybrook or the surrounding region. Donnybrook is situated in the Geographe Wine Region and central to many small & large country towns. They offer many opportunities for easy, fun day trips with your family.
